Organize Lateral File Cabinet

Lateral file cabinet – Although a lateral file cabinet provides more flexibility than a vertical file cabinet, you will still need to plan how to organize documents in a way that suits your needs.

Place the cabinet in the direction you want your files facing. With a lateral file cabinet you have the choice of files to the left, files right or files facing forward. Set lateral file rails if you have chosen to get your files facing forward. Use rails to divide the width of each file drawer into sections sized to receive the width of the expansible hanging files. Set extended hanging files in your lateral file cabinet, facing in the direction you have chosen.

Organize lateral file cabinet, Create file labels by typing a category title on each label. Put the file labels in alphabetical order or any order that makes the most sense for your needs. Place the file labels for the expandable hanging folders; place the first label on the far left of the first extended hanging file. Continue until all your files are labeled. When you get to the far right of a hanging file if you have multiple categories back starts back far left again. Label expandable file folders for subcategories by writing a subcategory title on the tab at the top of each folder. Sort your documents and save them in that category and subcategory files.
